Speech Therapy

Assessment and intervention in communication, speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders in children, adolescents and adults.

In short

Speech Therapy focuses on the prevention, assessment and treatment of human communication disorders — speech, spoken and written language, voice, fluency and swallowing. We work with children presenting language delays or articulation difficulties, with adolescents around learning, and with adults recovering from stroke, voice disorders or swallowing problems. Sessions are individual and the plan is built after a detailed assessment, in coordination with the family, school or referring physician where useful.

Areas of Intervention

What we treat in Speech Therapy

A field that goes well beyond articulation training: communication, language, voice and swallowing at any age.

  • Language delay in children

Children who are slow to start speaking, with reduced vocabulary or poorly structured sentences for their age.

  • Articulation disorders

Sound substitutions, omissions or distortions (R, S, CH, L) that do not resolve with age.

  • Stuttering and fluency

Assessment and intervention for children and adults with fluency disorders.

  • Reading and writing difficulties

Support for dyslexia, dysgraphia and other specific learning difficulties.

  • Voice disorders

Hoarse, fatigued or unstable voice — common in teachers, trainers and other professional voice users.

  • Aphasia and dysphagia in adults

Recovery of language and swallowing after stroke, head trauma or neurodegenerative disease.

Initial assessment

How the first session works

The first session is about understanding the reason for the visit, the clinical history and the context. Treatment only starts after assessment.

  1. Step 01

    Case history

We talk about developmental history (in children) or clinical history (in adults), the reason for the visit, and what you hope to gain from follow-up.

  2. Step 02

    Formal assessment

We use standardized age-appropriate tests — articulation, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, voice or swallowing — depending on the case.

  3. Step 03

    Plan and feedback

We share an assessment report with therapeutic goals and the proposed session frequency.

How We Work

Methods and approaches

Each plan is tailored to the patient. We combine evidence-based approaches.

  • Play-based intervention

With children, we work through play, books and materials that make sessions engaging and effective.

  • Family support

We provide concrete strategies for home and, where useful, coordinate with school and educators.

  • Adult rehabilitation

Structured language, voice or swallowing rehabilitation programmes after stroke or in neurodegenerative conditions.

  • Vocal training

Vocal hygiene, posture and technique for professionals who rely on their voice every day.

Indications

Who can benefit

Speech Therapy makes sense if

  • A child has language delay or persistent articulation difficulties
  • There is suspicion of dyslexia or another specific learning difficulty
  • Stuttering has lasted more than 6 months, at any age
  • Voice is hoarse for a long period or fatigues quickly
  • There are language or swallowing sequelae after stroke or trauma

May require prior assessment if

  • Hearing concerns have not yet been investigated (ENT consultation first)
  • There is suspicion of an undiagnosed acute neurological condition
  • The child is under 18 months with no warning signs — observation may be appropriate
A word from our Speech Therapist
There is no time wasted in Speech Therapy. The earlier a child with communication difficulties is seen, the more effective the plan we can build — but it is never too late for an adult to recover speech after a stroke, or for a voice professional to learn to speak without strain. Our role is to assess accurately, set clear goals and walk this path with you.

04 Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Speech Therapy?
Speech Therapy is the field that assesses and treats human communication disorders — speech, spoken and written language, voice, fluency (stuttering) and swallowing. It can be preventive, address an already established difficulty, or support recovery after a loss of function (for example, after a stroke).
At what ages can someone benefit from Speech Therapy?
At any age. We work with children (language delays, articulation difficulties, stuttering, dyslexia, learning difficulties), adolescents, adults (occupational voice disorders, adult stuttering, recovery after stroke or trauma) and older adults (aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, dementia).
How do I know if my child needs Speech Therapy?
Some signs to look out for: at 2 years old, the child does not combine words; at 3 years old, speech is hard to understand; sounds are persistently swapped, dropped or distorted; the child has stuttered for more than 6 months; they struggle to follow simple instructions; they have lost words they used to say; they have hoarseness for a long period. When in doubt, an assessment session will clarify whether intervention is needed or whether it is within typical range for the age.
How long does Speech Therapy treatment last?
It varies considerably. Small articulation issues resolve in a few months; more complex language disorders, stuttering or aphasia may require one to two years of follow-up. After the initial assessment we present a plan with clear goals and periodic reviews to adjust the pace.
Do parents take part in the sessions?
Yes, whenever it makes sense. With children, parental involvement is decisive: we explain the goals, show what is being worked on, and provide strategies for home. Sessions may include moments with parents or be entirely individual — depending on the child's age and the goals.
Is Speech Therapy covered by insurance?
Several insurance plans and health subsystems cover Speech Therapy sessions. When you book, we confirm the applicable coverage with you and handle the paperwork required for reimbursement or direct co-payment.
